9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
The Gestalt Institute of Central Ohio

The American Society of Addiction Medicine defines addiction as a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. In this professional training seminar we will explore the brain circuitry of addiction, the psychology of addiction, and the family dynamics of addiction. From both functional medicine and gestalt perspectives, we’ll explore therapeutic treatment methods involved in working with persons with addiction and their families.

Active addiction affects every member of the family. We will look at Gestalt based therapeutic processes that can help family members affected by the brain disease of addiction move from a place of helplessness towards a place of empowerment, inner strength, and hope. This seminar is designed to address the biopsychosocial nature of addiction and evidence-based treatment modalities in working with persons and families affected by addiction.

This engaging, insightful workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about addiction.

• To understand the brain circuitry and the psychological stages of addiction.

• To understand the family psychological dynamics of addiction.

• To understand treatment strategies in working with families with addiction from a Gestalt perspective through exploring the Gestalt psychotherapy process and exploring counseling methods and treatment strategies useful in working with families with addictions.
